BRAVE COMBO (texas) for fans of polka, rock, and the hoky-poky! http://www.brave.com/bo/ “Using polka music as their jumping board, Brave Combo live up to their name by crossing polka with jazz, rock, blues and more. They've won two Grammy Awards since their inception in Texas in 1979, as well as played nearly every major music festival around the nation. Irreverent, entertaining and extremely talented.” APPEARING AT MAXINES, 700 CENTRAL - $5 ADMISSION / 21+ 9PM

THE ITINERANT LOCALS www.polkayoureyeout.com
Tuba and accordian duo spurts out polka mixed with rock mixed with circus mixed with traditional tunes. And, lets not forget plenty of vulgarity. APPEARING AT MAXINES, 700 CENTRAL - $5 ADMISSION / 21+ 9PM

MONOTONIX (Israel) for fans of Led Zeppelin, The Sonics and Thin Lizzy http://monotonix.com/ Dissatisfied with the state of the music scene in their hometown of Tel Aviv, the Israeli trio Monotonix formed in November of 2005 with the mission of redefining the rock show. The band, consisting of singer Ami Shalev, guitarist Yonatan Gat, and drummer Haggai Fershtman, channel riff heavy influences Led Zeppelin, the Sonics, and Thin Lizzy to create raw, driving rock & roll. Shortly after forming, they would accomplish their mission in Tel Aviv, defying the expectations of what a rock show should be there. They would set up on the floor among the crowd and proceed to turn every performance into a wild party, wild enough that more often then not they would find the power getting shut off on them or the police called to break up the show. Eventually finding themselves banned from most of the venues in Tel Aviv, the band decided to leave Israel so they could tour the United States and Europe. From 2006 to 2007, Monotonix played over 300 shows around the world, including SXSW and a tour with Silver Jews. These tours furthered their reputation as a band whose shows are not watched, but experienced. Monotonix have become known for setting themselves and their equipment on fire, stealing drinks from audience members to pour on themselves, and generally turning their shows into unabashed, frenzied dance parties. - AllMusic.com Appearing at Low Key Arts, 118 Arbor $7 admission / All Ages / 9PM

AIDS WOLF (Canada) for fans of Arab & Radar, noise, weird stuff http://www.myspace.com/aidswolf We are a cult. ************************ AIDS Wolf embraces the hate. If they can't draw you in, they will make you run away cursing and bitching. Their songs speak to the terminally alienated, the relentlessly negative, the inherently repugnant. The Montréal four-piece (two guitars, drums and insane warbling) formed in early 2003, to the protestations of most of humanity. Since the beginning, they've sought to live the life: to practice complete aesthetic immersion, create music in some form every day, and live healthfully to facilitate their creative endeavors, no vacations allowed. AW greets our modern gloom with heady zeal. Appearing at Low Key Arts, 118 Arbor $7 admission / All Ages / 9PM

FIASCO (New York) http://www.myspace.com/fiasconewyork "Flame-thrower hot and strobe-light blinding, these are frenzied, tempo-turning, speed-tumbling instrumentals to burn down the mall by." - John James, Yes Weekly Appearing at Low Key Arts, 118 Arbor $7 admission / All Ages / 9PM

U.S. GIRLS (Philadelphia) http://www.myspace.com/usgirlsss An acid trip, reverb and more reverb on vocal chants. Noise, drums looping and looping. Not a bad trip, but confusing, disorienting, spinning, spinning, spinning. Appearing at Low Key Arts, 118 Arbor $7 admission / All Ages / 9PM

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18

PINK SPIDERS (tennesse) http://www.myspace.com/thepinkspiders Enough catchy charm and ass-kicking propulsion to suggest a ballsier Weezer or a punk schooled Cheap Trick…The spiders are ready to spin a power-pop revolution. – Rolling Stone Appearing at Low Key Arts, 118 Arbor $7 admission / All Ages / 7PM

MATHEMATICIANS (new york) http://themathematicians.net/ East-Coasters on an algebraic mission to rock you in a nerd core fashion with a formula: indie rock = hip hop = thick dark rim glasses = fist pumping and booty moves. Never was math so fun. Appearing at Low Key Arts, 118 Arbor $7 admission / All Ages / 7PM

THURSDAY, MARCH 19

THE QUEERS (new hampshire) http://www.thequeersrock.com/ It seems every band on the planet cites The Beach Boys in their self-induldged bios, but The Queers who have been sharpening their razor sharp hooks since the late 80’s can undeniably use Brian Wilson’s name right alongside Joey Ramones. That’s right, it’s the Ramones meet The Beach Boys. East meets West! Total punk rock fun! Appearing at Low Key Arts, 118 Arbor $10 admission / All Ages / 7PM

TEENAGE BOTTLEROCKET (Wyoming) http://www.teenagebottlerocket.com/ Who knew there was a punk scene in Wyoming? Well there is one, and Teenage Bottlerocket are not only the best punk band from the Cowboy State since the Lillingtons, they’re also one of the big reasons a punk scene exists out there. They book local clubs, promote and work at shows, and help out their fellow punk bands in the underground hotbed that is Laramie, Wyoming. People refer to Teenage Bottlerocket as “Pop Punk”, “Ramones-core”, “Weasel-core”, or “Leather Jacket Punk”; but whatever it is, they certainly owe nothing to the trends. – punknews.org Appearing at Low Key Arts, 118 Arbor $10 admission / All Ages / 7PM

POISON ARROWS (Atlanta) http://www.myspace.com/poisonarrows77 Straight out of the garage, these rockers give nods to Billy Idol’s early group, Generation X, as well as, The New York Dolls, Rod Stewart, and Thin Lizzy. Expect great hair and solid guitars over catchy hooks. Appearing at Low Key Arts, 118 Arbor $10 admission / All Ages / 7PM

AN A+ SET UP (Arkansas) www.myspace.com/nocity This 3-piece neo-new wave punk band could easily be mistaken for a 1977 throwback if it wasn’t for their clever blend of DEVO, Bauhaus and Television. Smart licks for high pogo dancers.

SCOUTS HONOR http://www.myspace.com/scoutshonor SCOUTS HONOR is a three-piece rock'n'roll explosion based out of Chicago and made up of Jared Grabb on vocals and guitar, David Dobbs on drums, and Ernesto Castillo on bass and backing vocals. They play bastardized heavy blues that has earned them comparisons to The Melvins, Against Me!, Unsane, and Danzig, to name a few. The VOV performance is part of the bands farewell tour.

FRIDAY, MARCH 20

MURDER BY DEATH http://www.murderbydeath.com/

Though they've had eight years to refine their sound and vision, Murder By Death rolled out of the gates fully realized in 2000, playing a blend of rocking Americana noir and dramatic post-punk that erased old style and audience boundaries as much as it tested the limits of new ones. And with their fourth album and Vagrant debut, Red Of Tooth And Claw (3/4/08), the Bloomington, Indiana, quartet are emerging as true artists in the zero-boundary sense: cinematic storytellers whose albums come together in an essential whole, and players whose jaw-dropping performances on record make you yearn for the chance to experience their energy up close and in person.

Haymarket Riot (chicago) http://www.haymarketriotband.com/
Haymarket Riot master intense dynamics, complex song arrangements and prestine detail. The band evokes an awkward anxiety with intricate song structure, start/stop hooks, and a hypnotizing rhythm section. For fans of Fugazi, and At the Drive In.

THE BITTER TEARS (chicago) http://www.myspace.com/thebittertears

Chicago’s got a new contender. Brought up by sideshow gypsy warriors, acid-folk progressives, and genius Broadway composers, this group of strapping gentleman are out of the gates and elevated onto some next level shit. Orchestrated in madness, wits, and a sense of humor, I’m placing all my bets on the Bitter Tears." - punk planet

SATURDAY, MARCH 21

HEADLIGHTS (Illinios) http://www.headlightsmusic.com/ From end to end, and without a weak moment, Headlights' second full-length inspires awe at how deftly the band employs bells, organ swells, orchestral flourishes and stacked, co-ed "oohs" and "aahs" for instant indie-pop bliss. Occupying territory well marked by both predecessors (Lush, Stereolab) and contemporaries (Stars, Asobi Seksu), Some Racing, Some Stopping's 10 tracks nonetheless stand out via good taste and attention to detail. Lyrical sentiments are appropriately soft-focused and impressionistic ("Water towers / Summer showers / Go for hours / Staring out the window") and vocalists Tristan Wraight and Erin Fein don't stint on the wistful melancholy in their respective, oft-intertwined deliveries. Winter-survival soundtracks don't come much better than this. – Paste Magazine Appearing at Low Key Arts, 118 Arbor FREE SHOW / All Ages / 7PM

POMEGRANATES (Ohio) http://www.myspacepomegranatesart Shimmering self-professed "art-pop"...A youthful, open-eared quartet enlivened with a kick-ass record collection, ceiling-less imagination, ragged guitars, and songwriting chops for days. – Spin Appearing at Low Key Arts, 118 Arbor FREE SHOW / All Ages / 7PM

FIELD FOUNDRY RECORDINGS (Missouri) http://www.myspace.com/thefoundryfieldrecordings "For all their smolder, it's fitting that this Columbia, MO quartet chose the name The Foundry Field Recordings: just as a foundry uses furnaces to melt metal, these CMJ favorites bring an orange molten glow to their music." - Spin.com Appearing at Low Key Arts, 118 Arbor FREE SHOW / All Ages / 7PM

KAISERCARTEL (brooklyn) http://www.myspace.com/kaisercartel

KaiserCartel are the dynamic duo of Courtney Kaiser & Benjamin Cartel. Each previously leaders of their own indie bands, they met on March 4th four years ago and formed KaiserCartel when they joined forces to tour the country that summer.  They self-released an EP (Double Standard) and toured throughout the US and UK on their own before signing to bluhammock music late last year. March Forth, their debut album – was produced by Matt Hales (aka aqualung) and mixed by Matt and Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros) - and is full of low-fi, harmony-heavy, bittersweet songs full of charm. Here’s what 411mania.com has to say about the duo: "While KaiserCartel look like a couple of emo kids who have lost their way don’t be deceived, they certainly bring their own brand sunshine with them and that reflected light is as warm and inviting as anything you'll find.. A fantastic collection of songs from two people that know how to play with each other and for each other. My album of the year so far."

SUNDAY, MARCH 22

The All Day Band BBQ Blowout !! - 16 or more bands including...
ATARIMATT (college station, tx) THE RESIGNATORS (australia) FLATFOOT 56(chicago, il) DEASTRO(detroit, mi) PRETTY AND NICE (boston, ma) THANK GOD (columbia, sc) BAD CREDIT NO CREDIT (brooklyn, ny) ANAVAN (los angeles, ca) ROLL THE TANKS (california) SOUTHEAST ENGINE (ohio) THEODORE (missouri) HEX MACHINE (richmond, va) BLACK DRAWING CHALKS (goiania, go, brazil) MACACO BONG (cuiaba, mt, brazil) THE COUNTERLIFE (fayetteville) HEAT MACHINE (nebraska)

Southeast Engine (ohio) http://www.southeastengine.com/
"Athens, Ohio's Southeast Engine see the light and release a rock opera of self-doubt and redemption... the music often matches the soul dividing sturm und drang driving the disc. It's rock opera, part Dante, part indie du jour, bombastic, to be sure, but never hectoring as it makes its way to moral détente." - Pitchfork

Theodore (missouri) http://www.myspace.com/theodoreacoustic
Theodore makes music, from a hush to a helter-skelter, that feels country but can't be. The sound is too eccentric, too impulsive, too illusory. That steel guitar you hear? That's the cry of a ghost. That high, broken twang in Justin Kinkel-Schuster's voice? That's the way the truth comes out. That 2008 album, Defeated, TN, with songs based on letters found in an abandoned home in Tennessee? Those are Theodore's stories too. Taking cues from lo-fi improvisers Giant Sand and country folk defilers like Palace, the band members assemble in shadows with trumpets, musical saws, accordions and banjos, then march forth like they know exactly where they're going. They don't, but that's the point. Theodore's country trip is mostly doomed and desperate, but it's always earned, always deeply felt — as the best country or alternative music should be.      - Riverfront Times
